Uisce Éireann has begun work to upgrade water infrastructure in Cootehill, Co Cavan, replacing deteriorating cast-iron mains to deliver a more dependable supply for the community.

Crews started this week on the Cavan Road, where more than 350 metres of ageing water mains will be replaced. The project aims to bolster the network, improve water quality and curb leakage, reducing disruption for homes and businesses.

Welcoming the scheme, Peter Gallagher of Uisce Éireann said the replacement of deteriorating mains will enhance water quality and the resilience of the system, eliminating existing leaks and cutting the volume of treated water lost to the ground.

"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, every home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Cootehill now and for generations to come."

The works are being delivered by Sean Quigley Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are scheduled for completion in September.
