New Craigavon Social Housing Development To Deliver 38 Homes

Construction News Image

A new social housing development in Craigavon is set to deliver 38 homes, with the first phase of the scheme expected to be completed by autumn this year.

The Drumnagoon Gate development, owned by Choice, is transforming a previously undeveloped greenfield site into a new residential neighbourhood. The scheme will provide 16 three-bedroom homes for five-person households and 22 two-bedroom homes for three-person households.

The homes are being built to modern standards and will include contemporary fixtures and fittings as well as energy-efficient gas-fired heating systems.

Choice Group Chief Executive Michael McDonnell said: "Through the 'Housing for All' Shared Housing Programme, this scheme demonstrates what can be achieved when strong partnerships come together to address housing need, whilst supporting community cohesion.

"This is a significant milestone for Choice and for the Craigavon area. We’re pleased to see the first phase progressing well and look forward to welcoming residents into their new energy efficient homes this year."

The development is being delivered in partnership with Windsor Developments, while construction is being carried out by Drumlough Developments.

A wider professional team is supporting the project, including civil engineer Sheehy Consulting, structural engineer Taylor and Boyd, mechanical and electrical engineer SCC Consulting Engineers, and quantity surveyor Hamill Gallagher.

Drumnagoon Gate is being supported through the Department for Communities and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive's 'Housing for All' Shared Housing Programme.

The programme was established under the Northern Ireland Executive’s Together: Building a United Community strategy, which aims to improve community relations and promote a more united and shared society. Up to £4.5 million is expected to be invested in the Drumnagoon Gate shared housing development and its associated five-year Good Relations Plan.

As part of the 'Housing for All' programme, Choice works with statutory, community and voluntary organisations, alongside local stakeholders and residents, to develop Good Relations Plans tailored to each shared housing scheme. These plans include initiatives and projects designed to support both new residents and the wider community, with partnership working identified as a key element in delivering shared housing developments.
