Works to replace ageing water mains have commenced in Gleann Cholm Cille as Uisce Éireann continues its county-wide drive to reduce water leakage and improve supply reliability.
More than 300 metres of old water mains have been prioritised for replacement in the village, a move that will help eliminate treated water loss into the ground and give households and businesses greater confidence in their water supply.
The project forms part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, with crews upgrading infrastructure along the R230 and L5055. Works will include the installation of new water mains and the replacement of service connections from the public network to customers’ property boundaries.
Uisce Éireann Programme Manager Patricia Lowry said: "This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive. We would like to thank customers in Gleann Cholm Cille in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these works."
To ensure works are carried out safely, temporary traffic lights will be in place at locations along the route for the duration of construction.
Ms Lowry continued: "We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to ensure security of supply in Gleann Cholm Cille now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience."
Residents will receive at least 48 hours' notice of any planned water interruptions.
The works are being delivered by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
