The development of an enhanced walking trail at the Bridges of Ross has moved a step closer, after Clare County Council secured €108,000 in funding through the latest round of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
The investment will support the extension and improvement of the popular coastal trail, with a focus on boosting accessibility, maintaining the area's natural appeal and strengthening its offering as a sustainable tourism and outdoor amenity. The project is being led by the West Clare Municipal District in collaboration with local community group Loop Head Together, with works designed to protect the landscape and preserve the site's environmental integrity.
Director of Services of Transportation, Climate Action, Recreation, Environmental & Emergency Services at Clare County Council, Dr Carmel Kirby, said: "We are looking forward to delivering an upgraded trail to locals and tourists alike at the Bridges of Ross. This funding in the latest measures of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme ensures we can deliver the best quality work possible and provide a trail that promotes the beautiful outdoor areas available in Ireland, particularly here in Clare."
The allocation comes under Measures 2 and 3 of ORIS, which saw a total of €16.5 million awarded to 63 outdoor recreation projects nationwide. The programme supports the development of walking trails, mountain access routes and water-based outdoor facilities, with individual grants of up to €500,000 available per project.
