The Daisyfield Sports Hub has been officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ald Niree McMorris, marking the completion of a major community regeneration project supported by the UK Government.
The project received £4.2 million in funding through the Levelling Up Fund, transforming a key community asset into a modern, state-of-the-art facility aimed at promoting health, well-being, and local sporting talent.
The new hub offers a range of upgraded facilities, including a fully refurbished grass pitch, a floodlit 4G Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and a new Brandywell Sports Centre with a dedicated changing pavilion. The hub will serve as the permanent home for local clubs including Oak Leaf Boxing Club, Over the Hill Snooker Club, and Ballymoor Football Club, while providing sport and physical activity opportunities for a wide range of community organisations across the region.
Ald McMorris, welcoming the opening, said: "I am absolutely thrilled to officially open the Daisyfield Sports Hub. This magnificent £4.2 million investment, secured through the Levelling Up Fund, represents far more than just bricks and mortar: it’s an investment in our people, our health, and our community's future.
"For the residents, and our fantastic anchor clubs—Oak Leaf Boxing, Over the Hill Snooker, and Ballymoor FC—this facility provides a long-awaited, first-class space to nurture local talent and promote physical activity for everyone, from young children to our senior members. This is the definition of Levelling Up in action, and I am proud to see this dream become a reality for the community."
