Construction has officially started on a €2 million package of improvements at Corduff Park, Dublin 15, after a sod-turning event marked the beginning of works.
Fingal County Council is delivering the scheme to transform the 6.6-hectare site into a modern, inclusive park for the local community.
The project will create a high‑quality public space with new and enhanced sports and play provision, pollinator‑friendly landscaping, upgraded community garden areas, and a mix of active and passive recreation amenities.
Key elements include refurbishment of the full‑size all‑weather football pitch with new fencing, lighting and drainage, a Hill Fort‑themed playground, improved footpaths and strengthened park boundaries. The programme also provides outdoor exercise equipment, upgrades to the existing grass football pitch and community garden, 83 bicycle parking spaces, and a 34‑space car park with three disabled bays, four EV‑ready bays and additional motorcycle provision. More than 40 new trees will be planted.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O'Leary, said: "I am delighted to see work officially beginning here at Corduff Park. These upgrades will be of huge benefit to the local community, who I want to commend for their work in helping get this project underway. This investment reflects our commitment to creating vibrant, sustainable communities where people of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors."
Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Jack Chambers TD, added: "This project is a fantastic example of community advocacy in action. The development of an all-weather pitch will help transform sport in Corduff and create a first-class community facility. Investments like this have a real impact on driving sport and physical activity, and this collaborative approach shows what can be achieved when we listen to and work with communities."
Local stakeholders include Corduff Sports Centre, Corduff F.C., Corduff Childcare Creche, local schools, the scout group, Foroige and community gardeners.
Daniel English, Director of Football at Corduff F.C., said: "We're delighted to see this investment in our local community and I'm proud to see this vision take root. The full-size all-weather pitch and other essential upgrades across the park will be well-utilised and we look forward to being able to use the park for generations to come."
Matthew McAleese, Director of Planning and Strategic Infrastructure at Fingal County Council, said: "Today marks an exciting milestone for the Corduff community as we officially break ground on these major new upgrades. This project will deliver a modern, inclusive space, reflecting Fingal's commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities, supporting local clubs like Corduff F.C. and creating a vibrant park for families and residents to enjoy."
The design team is led by Donnachadh O'Brien & Associates engineers, with Sole Sports & Leisure Ltd appointed as works contractor. Completion is scheduled for Q3 2026.
