Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins announced essential safety maintenance is taking place on the B8 Newry Road in Mayobridge, which requires a full road closure until 5pm on Friday 28 November 2025, between the B8 junction with Aughnagon Road and the junction with Crossan Road.
"These essential maintenance works will deliver benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out," she said.
The closure is to facilitate emergency repairs to a culvert. Signed diversion routes will operate as follows: Route 1 – B8 Newry Road, B8 Hilltown Road, U6185 Derryleckagh Road, B7 Bridge Road, B7 Chapel Road; Route 2 – A25 Rathfriland Road, A25 Newry Road, A25 Newry Street, A25 Main Street, A25 Downpatrick Street, Hilltown Road, B25 Rathfriland Road.
The Department said the works and traffic management had been scheduled to minimise inconvenience; however, road users should expect delays, allow extra time when travelling in the area and comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
