After achieving significant success in 2024, Mercury has announced its renewed participation in the Movember campaign for 2025, underscoring its long-term commitment to raising both awareness and substantial funds for men's physical and mental health.
Last year, the construction firm raised over €100,000 and was honoured with a trio of awards at the Movember Mo Awards, including the accolades for Top Overall Team, Construction Challenge Winner, and Movember Business Club Champion.
The Movember initiative holds particular relevance for the construction industry, which is a predominantly male sector facing considerable health challenges. With statistics indicating that men are three to four times more likely to die by suicide, and many routinely avoiding or delaying health checks, the focus on proactive support and fostering open dialogue is crucial. Mercury is dedicated to breaking down the associated stigma and creating a culture where employees feel supported to speak up, seek assistance, and take positive action.
Louis Kroucamp, Head of EHS at Mercury, spoke about the efforts to cultivate a safe environment for their workforce: "Movember 2024 was a milestone moment for Mercury. The level of engagement, generosity, and teamwork shown across the business was nothing short of incredible, but what mattered most was the awareness we raised, especially around mental health in the construction industry. This year, we're continuing to build that momentum. Through our wellbeing programmes, and ongoing health campaigns, we're committed to creating a workplace where every individual feels supported – both mentally and physically."
For the Movember 2025 campaign, Mercury teams across their construction sites throughout Europe are engaging in various physical challenges and bespoke fundraising events designed to raise awareness and impact. These activities are intended to enhance shared experience and camaraderie among team members. While the campaign is a key annual event, the company's broader commitment to fostering positive wellbeing is continuous, aligning with the core value of WorkSafe, HomeSafe.
Over the last four years, the company has invested over €260,000 into health and wellbeing programmes for both its staff and the communities it operates within. This is supported by strong internal systems, including the recent launch of a new Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which offers confidential counselling and expert guidance for employees and their families across mental, physical, and financial health needs. Additionally, the Mental Health First Aiders programme is expanding to provide crucial peer-to-peer support across all sites and offices.
