Residents in Bunbrosa, Monilea, Ballynagall and Knockdrin, outside Mullingar, can expect a more secure water service following the completion of two key water main replacement projects by Uisce Éireann.
The programme replaced more than 4 kilometres of ageing mains with modern pipes, which is expected to reduce bursts and service interruptions and deliver a more reliable supply for homes and businesses.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We are delighted to have completed these works that are now benefitting local homes and businesses, across Bunbrosa, Monilea, Ballynagall and Knockdrin.
"By replacing old water mains, we ensure a more sustainable water supply, eliminate existing leaks, and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground protecting our most precious resource.
"In addition to the local communities reaping the rewards of this new water infrastructure these upgrades are an important step in the ongoing efforts to safeguard the water supply for the wider Mullingar area. I would like to thank the public and road users for their patience and support while these works were being completed."
A range of actions is also helping to protect Lough Owel, the source of the Mullingar Regional supply, including water main replacement, active leak detection and repairs across the network, supported by continued conservation efforts in the community.
Leak reduction work is ongoing, with control valves being installed at strategic points to help prevent bursts, improve network management and allow reservoirs to recover during low-demand periods. Data quality will be further enhanced by the advanced metering programme now under way.
Shareridge delivered the recent works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Both schemes form part of the national Leakage Reduction Programme, which is providing communities across Ireland with improved water quality, a more resilient and sustainable supply, and significant water savings.
