Uisce Éireann has begun a major wastewater network upgrade in Farganstown, Navan, investing €22 million as part of its national programme of targeted works to support housing delivery and economic growth.

The scheme will expand capacity to facilitate 1,600 new homes in the short term, while also enabling further development over time.

The project, which commenced in October 2025 under Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, includes construction of a new wastewater pumping station and installation of 2.4km of sewer to serve future growth in the Navan area.

The upgrade is designed to boost capacity and resilience across existing infrastructure, improving reliability for current and future residents and businesses and supporting anticipated population growth.

James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, said: "The commencement of this project is very welcome news for the community in Farganstown, Navan. Improvements in the capacity of the wastewater network will bring tangible benefits and provide the required infrastructure to service existing and new developments in the area, including much-needed new housing.

"Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery. That is why in the recent Budget and through the National Development Plan we have increased Uisce Éireann’s funding to accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country."

Uisce Éireann’s Padraic Fitzgerald said: "The Farganstown Wastewater Network Upgrade project will not only address current capacity constraints but will also facilitate planned residential development, helping to unlock housing and economic potential in the area. We are working closely with developers to ensure the infrastructure is in place to enable the delivery of essential new homes for the community."

The works are being delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group Ltd., with completion expected in late 2027. Activity is under way at Navan Wastewater Treatment Plant, and construction of a new wastewater pump station near St Mary’s Cemetery will begin in the coming weeks. Pipelaying on the R153 Boyne Road is anticipated to start next summer and will require localised road closures; local and emergency access will be maintained, with details of closures and diversions communicated in advance.
