Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed that a £160,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme on Halfgayne Road in Swatragh will get under way on Monday 1 December 2025.

The project will cover a 1.25-kilometre section from the Corlackey Road junction towards Drumbane Road and includes resurfacing at the Halfgayne Road/Drumbane Road junction.

Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Swatragh & Slaughtneil area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To facilitate safe delivery, a road closure will be in place between the Corlackey Road and Drumbane Road junctions from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday 1 December to Friday 19 December.

During these times, signed diversions will operate via Corlackey Road, Knockoneill Road and Drumbane Road, and vice versa.

The Department has planned the works and traffic management to minimise disruption. While efforts will be made to maintain local access, some delays are expected; motorists should allow extra time and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is due to be substantially completed by Friday 19 December 2025.
