Arcadis, the global leader in sustainable design and consultancy, has announced its joint appointment with partner Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects (Belfast) to deliver the new Strabane Health and Care Centre in County Tyrone.
The joint venture secured the appointment under a framework agreement with the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust). The team will serve as the lead organisations of the Integrated Consultant Team (ICT) for the project.
The purpose-built health facility is a key component of the significant £113 million Strabane Town Centre Regeneration Programme. Once completed, it will provide a modern, state-of-the-art environment for delivering high-quality, integrated community and primary care services to the Strabane catchment area and surrounding populations.
The new centre is designed to be a vital asset for the local community, consolidating a comprehensive range of health and social care services under a single, modern, and accessible roof. This consolidation aims to meet the evolving needs of the local residents.
Dr Maura O'Neill, Director of Community and Older Peoples Services for the Western Trust and Senior Responsible Officer for the project, emphasised the benefits of co-location: "This exciting new development will enable both the Western Trust and the GP Medical Practices to be co-located within one facility, supporting integrated service delivery, improving accessibility and delivery of services for patients. This is an excellent example of partnership working, where the Trust and other government bodies are working together to deliver significant regeneration projects in Strabane through the City Deal Programme. The appointment of the Western Trust's Integrated Consultancy Team is an important milestone in this programme."
The joint venture will deliver multidisciplinary services, with Arcadis and Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects leading the ICT and providing architecture, BIM management, and healthcare planning. The primary supply chain partner, Tetra Tech, will provide crucial project management, cost management, and engineering services. This collaborative structure is intended to ensure the facility is future-proofed and fit-for-purpose for generations to come.
The Western Trust is a large service provider, covering 4,842 sq. km and delivering services across Limavady, Derry, Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh to over 300,000 people in the West of Northern Ireland. Its services span acute and community care, mental health, children's services, and social care for individuals with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities.
Justin Harris, Global Practice Group Director, Healthcare at Arcadis, stated their commitment to the local community:
"At Arcadis, our core mission is to improve the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. We are delighted to be working alongside the Western Health and Social Care Trust and our partners at Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects to deliver a facility that will transform how healthcare is accessed in Strabane. By leveraging our global experience in healthcare infrastructure and our local knowledge, we are committed to creating an environment that supports integrated care, fosters wellbeing, and contributes to the regeneration of Strabane town centre."
Arcadis and its partners are committed to engaging closely with the Western Trust, local stakeholders, and the community to deliver a facility that is inclusive, sustainable, and specifically tailored to the requirements of Strabane's residents.
