Uisce Éireann has announced a programme of enhancement works for Cork City's wastewater infrastructure in the Grand Parade area.
Details remain current until further updates are provided here or via the Supply and Service Updates section.
Specialist contractors will access the underground pump station on Grand Parade to remove redundant equipment, carry out a full clean, and clear historical debris. The activities are intended to strengthen the operational resilience of the wastewater network and help pinpoint future upgrades.
Uisce Éireann Portfolio Manager, David Shalloo, said: "This project will provide vital improvements to the operation of wastewater infrastructure in the heart of Cork City. In addition to supporting service improvements across the wastewater network, this project will lay the foundation for maintenance and improvement works in the future."
To deliver the work safely and efficiently, a two-week programme of night-time operations will run from 5 January to 19 January along a short section of Sullivan's Quay, supported by a road closure approved by Cork City Council. Local and emergency access will be maintained throughout. Work will take place between 7pm and 7am. A temporary footpath closure is required, with a signposted pedestrian diversion on Sullivan's Quay, across Nano Nagle Bridge and along Grand Parade.
Following the night-time phase, daytime works will continue at Grand Parade, confined to the area by Nano Nagle Bridge. Standard hours will be 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
Temporary hoarding will be installed for safety and security, to provide visual screening and a basic level of noise reduction. To keep access open to 50 Grand Parade Car Park/Park it Here, a temporary up-and-over pipe bridge will be in place.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. will carry out the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the overall programme expected to last approximately eight weeks.
