Uisce Éireann is advancing a major project to enhance Drumconrath’s water supply.
The works include developing a new raw water source at a groundwater well in Posseckstown and installing a new water main to transfer raw water from this source to the local water treatment plant.
Upgrades will also be carried out at the treatment plant, which serves more than 1,200 customers. This multi-million-euro investment is intended to strengthen the resilience of supply for homes and businesses in Drumconrath and surrounding areas.
To facilitate the installation of the new main, Meath County Council has approved temporary road closures on the L-7410-0 at Cregg and the L-74033-0 at Posseckstown, Nobber, Co. Meath. The closures are in place until Monday, 09 February 2026.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and local and emergency access will be maintained throughout the closure period.
John McElwaine, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: "The road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of our contractors, road users and the general public while works are underway.
"We acknowledge that these works may cause some disruption while in progress and thank customers for their patience."
Speaking about the project, John continued: "This major upgrade to the Drumconrath Water Treatment Plant is a crucial investment in the future of the community. By securing a new groundwater source and enhancing the treatment facilities, we are ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient water supply for homes and businesses in Drumconrath and surrounding areas. This project not only supports compliance with drinking water standards but also lays the foundation for social and economic growth."
Coffey Construction is delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in late 2026.
The current water scheme is listed on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Remedial Action List, which identifies supplies requiring improvement.
