Cork County Council has announced a new Affordable Housing Purchase Scheme in Pulleen, Kanturk, as part of its drive to increase access to home ownership in rural communities.
Applications for the scheme will open at 12 noon on Tuesday 3 February 2026. The 20-home development, built by Vella Homes, is aimed primarily at first-time buyers who do not currently own a property, although a small number of exceptions will apply, along with Fresh Start applicants.
The scheme comprises 20 A-rated family homes in a sought-after residential area of Pulleen, offering a mix of two and three-bedroom properties. Prices start from €260,000 for two-bedroom mid-terrace houses, representing a reduction of around 22.3 per cent from market value. Two-bedroom bungalows will be available from €315,000, approximately 19.23 per cent below market value, while 16 three-bedroom end-terrace and semi-detached homes will be offered from €295,000, around 20.2 per cent below market value.
Welcoming the launch of the scheme, Mayor of the County of Cork, Councillor Mary Linehan Foley, said: "As a local authority, we are committed to delivering high quality, affordable homes for the people of Cork. This new opportunity in Pulleen, Kanturk demonstrates our ongoing dedication to sustainable communities and ensuring that families can build their lives in the areas they love.
"Located in the picturesque town of Kanturk, these modern, energy-efficient properties offer eligible applicants the chance to own a quality home at an affordable price.
"Kanturk offers a rich mix of services and facilities that make it an ideal location for families and individuals. The town has both primary and post-primary schools, shops, pubs, restaurants, medical facilities, sports clubs and a town park. Kanturk is well located and provides efficient travel to Cork, Limerick, and Mallow and is only minutes away from the Banteer railway station."
Under the Affordable Housing Purchase Scheme, buyers will enter into an arrangement with Cork County Council whereby the Council retains an equity share in the property. This share reflects the difference between the market value of the home and the discounted purchase price, expressed as a percentage of the market value, with a minimum equity share of five per cent.
Applications will be accepted via the online portal on Cork County Council's website between 12 noon on 3 February 2026 and 12 noon on 23 February 2026.
