Uisce Éireann will press ahead in 2026 with further investment in Carrick-on-Suir’s drinking water network, continuing to replace ageing town-centre pipes to curb leakage and improve the reliability of supply for residents and businesses.
The utility began last year to replace more than 1.7km of problematic mains under its National Leakage Reduction Programme. To date, over 1.3km has been installed. Works are resuming on Main Street this week and will move to Greystone Street in the coming weeks. Before Christmas, phases were completed on New Street, North Quay, Castle Lane, Bridge Street and West Gate.
Speaking about the project, Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We would like to extend our thanks for the continued support and patience of the local community in Carrick-on-Suir while these complex works progress.” He acknowledged the inconvenience of replacing old pipes in the town centre and said crews are working to minimise disruption while delivering the works quickly and safely.
"New, modern water mains are vital to ensure security of supply in Carrick-on-Suir now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience.
"We are committed to delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities across Tipperary. These works in Carrick-on-Suir are part of that effort, ensuring fewer disruptions, improved water quality, and a network that's fit for the future."
