Fingal County Council has officially opened the upgraded Portmarnock Rail Bridge, providing a new walking and cycling link between Drumnigh Manor and Skylark Place.

The opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor of Fingal Cllr Tom O'Leary, Minister for Transport and Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O'Brien TD, Fingal County Council Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly and the council’s Director of Infrastructure and Transport, Matthew McAleese.

"Fingal County Council is delighted to announce the official opening of the upgraded Portmarnock Rail Bridge, creating a vital link between Drumnigh Manor and Skylark Place. This new shared walking and cycling route offers residents a safe, sustainable, and healthy way to travel, supporting Fingal’s commitment to climate action and active travel."

The bridge, which had previously been fenced off and lay unused, has been redeveloped into a high-quality two-way footpath and cycleway. The project was funded by the National Transport Authority and is designed to improve local connectivity while encouraging more people to walk or cycle for everyday journeys.

It also complements other active travel initiatives in the area, including the cycling bus to St Marnock's National School, aimed at making school trips safer and more environmentally friendly.
