NIE Networks has opened applications for its Apprentice Academy, inviting people interested in building a career in the energy sector to apply.
The company is seeking new cohorts of Craftsperson and Higher-Level Electrical Engineering apprentices, with programmes offering comprehensive training and industry-recognised qualifications.
Craftsperson opportunities include roles as an Overhead Linesperson, Underground Cable Jointer, Plant Maintenance Electrician, and Plant Workshop Electrical and Mechanical Fitter. The Craftsperson route is open to anyone aged 16 or over by the start date in September 2026. Applicants must hold, or expect to achieve, a minimum of three GCSE passes at grades A*–D (grades 4–9), including Maths, English and a STEM-related subject. Apprentices will work towards essential vocational and technical qualifications at Levels 2–3, delivered through NIE Networks' training schools or with approved delivery partners, equipping them for craft roles within the electrical utility sector.
The Higher Level Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering is open to those aged 18 or over by September 2026. Candidates must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, and either three A levels at grades A*–C including Maths or Physics, a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering (MMP*), or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (MM*). This pathway provides technical qualifications underpinned by a Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, delivered through NIE Networks' dedicated training schools and in partnership with Northern Regional College.
