Belfast-headquartered construction and fit-out specialist Gilbert-Ash has reached a significant sustainability milestone, with its £24 million Loveday Dementia Care Facility in Belgravia, London, officially achieving a 'BREEAM Outstanding' rating.
The accreditation places the 40,000 sq ft project in an elite bracket, as fewer than 1% of registered non-domestic buildings in the UK attain the "Outstanding" level. This marks the second time within a year that Gilbert-Ash has secured the highest possible BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification.
The new-build project involved the design and construction of a six-storey facility plus a basement, providing 44 high-quality residential suites tailored for specialist dementia care. In addition to high-spec living quarters, the building houses a diverse range of amenities, including:
• Clinical and Wellness: A hydro spa, salon, and nurse rooms.
• Lifestyle: A library, activity room, dining room, lounge, and cocktail bar.
• Operational: A main reception, professional kitchen, offices, laundry, and bike store.
• External: Landscaped terraces located on the ground, second, and fifth floors.
Ray Hutchinson, Managing Director of Gilbert-Ash, stated that the rating underscores the company's ability to deliver iconic, environmentally conscious infrastructure.
He said: "At Gilbert-Ash, we are proud to have delivered some of the most iconic spaces across the UK and Ireland, and we're delighted to see Loveday Dementia Care Facility has become our second project in just 12 months to achieve BREEAM Outstanding certification. Innovation, collaboration, and determination drive everything we do, and this recognition is a testament to that commitment."
Michael Heron, ESG Lead at Gilbert-Ash, highlighted the importance of early-stage cooperation in reaching such a high standard.
He noted: "It would not have been possible to achieve this accreditation without early engagement with EPR Architects. Implementing BREEAM Outstanding will ensure resource efficiency and lower maintenance and energy costs over the structure's lifespan. Many projects we have worked on have been recognised as either BREEAM Excellent or Very Good but this is just the second time we have been awarded the Outstanding rating."
The Loveday Belgravia project further strengthens Gilbert-Ash's reputation for high-end, sustainable construction, following the firm's recent expansion with a new headquarters in Dublin alongside its established bases in Belfast and London.
