Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) has announced plans to carry out works to install new underground cables in the Olympia Parade, Tates Avenue, Glenmachan Place, and Boucher Road areas of Belfast, starting 18 January 2026.
The works, being undertaken in partnership with contractors Morrows, will continue during extended hours and at weekends to minimise disruption. NIE Networks has confirmed that access to all premises will be maintained and electricity supply will not be affected.
Phase 1 (18–25 January 2026)
The first phase will affect Olympia Parade and the lower section of Tates Avenue. Traffic on Tates Avenue will operate in a single lane heading toward the roundabout, while the left-turn filter onto Boucher Road will be closed. Right-lane access to Boucher Road will remain open. Pedestrian access will be maintained via temporary footways with clear signage.
Phase 2 (21 February–7 March 2026)
The second phase will involve Boucher Road up to Windsor Way (the turn-off for Lidl/Olympia Leisure Centre), with a continuous left-lane closure and full diversions in place. Traffic management measures will also be in place on Donegal Road throughout the duration of the works.
Full details of road closures and diversions will be available on the TrafficWatch NI website at trafficwatchni.com.
NIE Networks and its contractors said they will make every effort to minimise disruption and thanked the public for their patience.
