Uisce Éireann has issued a notice to residents and businesses in Elphin, Strokestown, and surrounding localities regarding potential water outages or low pressure scheduled for Thursday, 22 January.
The planned disruption is necessary to facilitate a changeover to a newly installed water main in the Lettreen area. This infrastructure work is being carried out as a vital component of the ongoing N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue road project.
Engineers expect the changeover process to take place between 8am and 8pm on Thursday. During this twelve-hour window, intermittent supply issues may affect customers in the following areas: Strokestown; Elphin; Larrigan; Shankhill Cross; and Lettreen.
Gerard Greally of Uisce Éireann commented on the upcoming works: "We are working closely with the contractor on the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue road project to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses. Our teams will work to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. We understand the impact that outages can have on customers and would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works to facilitate the delivery of the road project."
Once the supply is restored, consumers may notice temporary discolouration of their water. Uisce Éireann advises that this is common following such works and provides guidance on their website for managing supply returns.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with the utility provider will receive direct notifications regarding the disruption. Other residents are encouraged to sign up for Uisce Éireann's free text alert service to receive real-time updates. The customer care helpline remains open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 for those with specific queries.
