1,608 social homes delivered by the end of 2025 under Housing for All, 232 above target, with a further 565 due to complete in 2026 as wider housing supports are highlighted during the national Housing Focus campaign.
Louth County Council has beaten its social housing delivery goal a full year ahead of schedule. Under the government's Housing for All plan, the Council delivered 1,608 new social homes by the end of 2025—exceeding its target by 232. Multiple schemes remain on track to provide a further 565 social homes during 2026.
Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said: "Surpassing our Housing for All targets ahead of schedule is a major milestone. It reflects the commitment of our team and partners to tackling the housing challenge head-on. We will continue working tirelessly to deliver homes and provide supports that meet the needs of our communities."
Alongside new-build delivery, the Council continued to scale housing supports and improve standards in 2025. It supported 2,688 private tenancies through the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), assisted 2,922 individuals and families via the Homeless Support Service, and moved 562 people from the housing list into long-term social housing. A further 371 grants were approved for essential home repairs and adaptations, more than 10,000 maintenance requests were completed for council tenants, and 142 council homes were upgraded to higher energy efficiency standards.
The Council also carried out inspections of more than 2,000 private rental properties, supported 242 new council tenants through training initiatives, and approved 263 grants to bring vacant properties back into use.
David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, added: "We have shown we are committed to delivering housing, but Louth County Council is about more than building social housing. We are about creating a better housing future for everyone in the housing market.
Our role is to support the people of Louth at every stage of their housing journey, from those at risk of homelessness to private renters, homeowners, and our own tenants. We work collaboratively with industry and private individuals to deliver solutions that raise standards, improve quality, and increase supply."
To raise awareness of the help available, Louth County Council is taking part in Housing Focus, a national public information campaign coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and running from 19th–23rd January 2026. The initiative showcases the housing options and supports provided by local authorities. Ger Murphy, Director of Services with Louth County Council said: "Housing is a complex issue and therefore requires a comprehensive response. The range of housing supports available through the Council is vast and that's why this campaign is so important. It aims to raise awareness of what is available to the people of Louth and show the work that is being done locally to meet the housing needs of the county."
