Uisce Éireann will shortly begin essential water main replacement works in Collooney, advancing its programme to enhance water services for homes and businesses across Co Sligo.

The scheme is intended to deliver a more dependable supply and improve water quality for the local area.

More than 740 metres of ageing cast iron water mains will be replaced with modern, durable pipes. Works will be carried out along the L7609/L76093 from Collooney Methodist Church to Markee Heights, and along the L7609 from Bungee Row to St. Mary's Green.

As part of the project, crews will also install new water service connections from the public main to customers' property boundaries.

The initiative forms another step under Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, which seeks to safeguard water resources and strengthen infrastructure nationwide.

These upgrades also mean fewer bursts, reduced disruption, and improved water quality for everyone who depends on the network. Farrans Construction is delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected by Summer 2026.

To minimise disruption, activity will be confined to short sections. A one-way traffic management system will operate on the L7609/L76093 (Collooney Methodist Church to Markee Heights), followed by a road closure on the L7609 Bungee Row/St. Mary’s Green section. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

The works may require brief planned interruptions to water supply for nearby customers. A minimum of 48 hours' notice will be provided ahead of any outage.
