Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo/Leitrim/South Donegal, Eamon Scanlon, has received a positive update on the development of a new community centre at Ballymote Park.
Deputy Scanlon confirmed he has been informed by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Dara Calleary, that a letter has been signed this week allowing the project to proceed to the tender stage.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Scanlon said he was pleased with the progress being made.
"I am absolutely delighted to have been informed by Minister Dara Calleary that he has signed off on the project for a community centre for Ballymote Park to go to tender.
"A community centre will bring vibrancy to the area, social inclusion, support for youth and families and supports for the local community, and it will be great use to locals to the area and beyond."
The community centre forms part of a wider development plan for Ballymote Park, which could see investment of more than €3 million in the area.
Deputy Scanlon thanked the Minister and the local development committee for their work on advancing the project and expressed hope that a contractor would be appointed soon.
"I would like to thank Minister Dara Calleary for signing this contract off for tender this week. I hope that it is a swift process and a contractor can be assigned to the project as soon as it is feasible.
"Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the outstanding work the Ballymote Park and Development Committee has done to enhance the park. Their commitment is an inspiration to us all, and I look forward to them being rewarded with their community centre in the near future."
