Uisce Éireann has reached a significant milestone in the modernisation of Lismore's water infrastructure, with nearly 2.5km of outdated watermains now successfully replaced. The project is part of a comprehensive 3km upgrade programme concentrated along Deerpark Road and Lismore Bridge, aimed at curbing leakage and ensuring a sustainable supply.
The upcoming phase of construction is scheduled to commence in the next few weeks. This stage will focus on a 0.5km stretch along the N72, extending from Lady Louisa's Walk across Lismore Bridge. These works are essential for reinforcing network resilience and improving overall water quality in the area.
To facilitate the commissioning of the newly installed infrastructure, customers in Lismore are advised of a planned service disruption. Low water pressure or a total loss of supply may occur between 3pm and 8pm on Wednesday, 28 January 2026. Officials have noted that a second planned outage will be necessary in the coming weeks, with specific details to be announced closer to the date. Once the work is finalised, supply is expected to return gradually as the system recharges.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, commented on the progress: "We are committed to ensuring Lismore has a more resilient and reliable water supply for the future. By replacing vulnerable sections of ageing mains, we are significantly reducing leakage and strengthening the network for local homes and businesses."
He added: "We greatly appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works, which will deliver long-term benefits for the town."
