Uisce Éireann has begun works to modernise Limerick City's water network, helping to unlock capacity for essential new homes.
The scheme is part of Uisce Éireann's Growth and Development Programme.
The project will install 1.7 kilometres of new water mains at Corbally, the R526 Raheen and Roxborough Road, enabling future expansion across the wider area.
James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, said: "We welcome the commencement of this project that will support the development of much needed housing. Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery and to the overall development of cities and towns throughout Ireland. The increased funding that we have allocated to Uisce Éireann for 2026 will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country."
Uisce Éireann's Michael McManus said: "This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including vital, planned residential development. The increase of the capacity of the existing water network will also deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality water services for the community."
Shareridge is delivering the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with completion expected in summer 2026.
To carry out the project safely and efficiently, temporary traffic management will be in place. Access for local residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times, with advance signage provided.
