Uisce Éireann customers in North Galway are experiencing a more dependable drinking water supply following the completion of a major mains renewal programme.
Reinstatement has now concluded a scheme that installed over 3km of new water mains between Carheens and Caherlistrane. In total, 3,023 metres of ageing pipes were replaced with modern infrastructure along the L2111 from its junction with the R333, through the townland of Caltra, to the L2112 at Carheens Crossroads.
Enda MacNamara of Uisce Éireann thanked the community for its patience during the works and underlined the long-term benefits for local homes and businesses. "We wish to extend our thanks to local residents, businesses and road users for their co-operation during the period of these works.
"We understand the inconvenience and disruption that traffic management measures can cause, but these were necessary to ensure this significant project was delivered safely.
"Homes and businesses in the Caherlistrane and Carheens areas are now benefitting from a more secure and reliable water supply because of these works. The new mains will also significantly reduce the likelihood of operational issues on the network moving forward, while also reducing the volume of water lost to leakage," he continued.
The scheme was delivered by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
