Residents and businesses in Cavan Town are benefitting from a more resilient and reliable water supply following the completion of a major town-centre mains replacement scheme.
The Railway Road project concluded shortly before Christmas, bringing to a close works that replaced over 1.4km of water mains in the town centre.
On Railway Road (R198) and College Street (R212), ageing mains were swapped out for modern piping. The programme also installed new service connections from the public main to customers' property boundaries and connected these to individual supplies.
"This was an extensive programme of mains replacements for Cavan Town and we are proud to have brought the project to completion," said Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann.
Patricia Lowry added: "Residents, businesses and visitors to Cavan Town can look forward to a more secure and reliable water supply as a consequence of these works, while the new pipes will also help us to reduce leaks of leakage on the network and decrease the likelihood of supply disruptions moving forward.
"We wish to thank the community of Cavan Town, including the local business owners, for their understanding and co-operation while these works were ongoing," continued Patricia.
The Railway Road scheme forms part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, which targets leakage nationwide by fixing bursts and replacing old and damaged water mains.
Uisce Éireann's long-term goal is to reduce leakage to 20%, a target it aims to meet through focused investment in the water network.
To support this, more than €1 billion is being invested up to the end of 2029 in the underground network, including leakage reduction measures. This investment will deliver further upgrades, reduce leakage, improve water quality and provide a more reliable supply for homes and businesses.
