Uisce Éireann has begun essential upgrade works in Stranorlar this week to modernise the local water network, reducing the risk of bursts, improving water quality and providing a more consistent supply for households and businesses.
Crews are replacing more than 700 metres of ageing water mains along the N15, from McClays Corner to the Admiran Park junction in Stranorlar.
Patricia Lowry, Uisce Éireann's Programme Manager, said: "This upgrade between McClays and Kilross is an important investment in the community's water supply. By replacing older pipes with modern high quality water mains and tackling leakage, we're helping to improve water quality, reduce the likelihood of bursts, and provide a more reliable service for years to come."
Farrans Construction is carrying out the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann, and the works are scheduled to finish in early summer. Temporary night-time traffic lights will operate for the duration of the programme.
The scheme forms part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme, designed to cut leakage, minimise the risk of disruptive bursts and strengthen the local network for the community.
Uisce Éireann's long-term target is to reduce leakage to 20%, supported by investment of more than €1 billion up to the end of 2029. This funding will deliver further upgrades to underground water infrastructure, lowering leakage, improving water quality and providing a more reliable supply for homes and businesses nationwide.
