The Lighthouse Construction Charity has brought its #MakeItVisible roadshow to the Castor Bay project for NI Water, delivering an informal, engaging session on mental health and wellbeing to site teams. Staff from eight companies working on the scheme took part in the talk, which focused on the specific challenges facing people in construction.
NI Water has appointed the Farrans–Glanua Joint Venture to deliver a £34m programme that will secure high-quality drinking water for more than 250,000 customers across Armagh and Down for the next 25 years. Central to the scheme is a new state-of-the-art pumping station at Castor Bay Water Treatment Works, near Lurgan, replacing the existing facility built in 1970.
During the session, the Lighthouse team shared powerful lived experiences that encouraged open discussion about real-life pressures, including the cost of living, addiction, family responsibilities and the emotional strain that can accompany life's ups and downs. A core message throughout was that it is okay to ask for help and that support is available.
Alongside the group talk, the #MakeItVisible van offered a private, safe space for one-to-one conversations, allowing individuals to ask questions and learn more about free and confidential services.
Working in construction is rewarding but comes with unique pressures. Tight deadlines, long hours, physical demands and everyday stressors can impact mental health. Knowing how to access support early can make a meaningful difference and help prevent issues from becoming overwhelming.
Lighthouse Construction Charity supports everyone in the industry—whether you are struggling personally, helping a colleague, or simply seeking information about mental health and wellbeing. The message is clear: you do not have to face difficulties alone.
