Radius Housing has officially opened Daisyfield Court, a significant new residential development on the Letterkenny Road in L'Derry. The £8.25 million scheme provides a mix of townhouses and apartments designed to house up to 114 people, marking a major step in addressing the acute housing shortage within the city.
The project was delivered in partnership with developers GEDA and comprises 40 new homes. The site was designed with a focus on inclusivity, offering a variety of accommodation types to suit different family sizes and physical requirements.
Breakdown of the 40 New Homes:
• 12 three-person, two-bedroom townhouses.
• 12 three-person, two-bedroom Category 1 apartments.
• 8 three-person, two-bedroom apartments.
• 4 two-person, one-bedroom apartments.
• 2 two-person, one-bedroom wheelchair accessible apartments.
• 2 three-person, two-bedroom wheelchair accessible apartments.
John McLean, Chief Executive of Radius Housing, highlighted the importance of the central location and the specific design features:
"This development is about real delivery for a city that has an acute housing need. Radius Housing's Daisyfield Court development will provide safe, high-quality homes for individuals and families who need them most, right in the heart of Derry/Londonderry. The mix of homes here, including accessible and wheelchair-designed accommodation, reflects our commitment to meeting a wide range of housing needs and ensuring people can live independently and with dignity."
The total cost of the development exceeded £8.25 million, which included more than £3.3 million in private investment. Construction began in March 2024 and reached completion on 19 February 2026.
In line with modern sustainability goals, the development encourages green travel. Residents will be provided with travel cards to promote the use of public transport and decrease the community's reliance on private vehicles. Damian Murray, Build Director at GEDA, noted that energy-efficient construction methods were a priority to ensure long-term comfort and affordability for the new tenants.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, officially opened the site and praised the quality of the new builds:
"It is a pleasure to officially open Daisyfield Court development on the Letterkenny Road, and to see such a positive example of how social housing can be delivered with quality, accessibility and community at its heart. The development will be a welcome addition to the area and a place where residents can feel proud to live."
The project was delivered by GEDA as the developer for Radius, with AG Crawford serving as the Employer's Agent.
