Regarded as a leading benchmark for performance in Ireland's built environment, the ICE Awards spotlight best practice in project delivery, design, technology and leadership. Coffey's multiple shortlistings reflect the breadth of its work on critical public infrastructure and the capability of multidisciplinary teams operating in live, safety-critical environments.
Innovation in Construction (€20M–€200M) – Enfield WwTP: The Enfield Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion advances environmental engineering by integrating nature-based solutions with enhanced treatment processes. The scheme delivers full regulatory compliance while cutting carbon, driving CapEx and OpEx efficiencies via low‑energy, low‑maintenance design, and using the enlarged site area to promote biodiversity and wildlife habitats. The approach demonstrates how modern process engineering aligned with natural systems can yield durable environmental, operational and economic outcomes.
Civil Engineering (Up to €10M) – Enfield WwTP Expansion: Delivered under a demanding Design & Build contract with a 144‑week O&M period on a live site, the upgrade transformed a constrained, non‑compliant 3,500 PE facility into a resilient, low‑carbon asset serving 6,200 PE, with provision to scale to 9,500 PE. Eleven Sludge Drying Reed Beds remove the need for mechanical dewatering and chemicals, saving approximately 48,750 kWh annually and eliminating 155 HGV sludge journeys. Trenchless crossings protected sensitive river habitats, the programme recorded zero LTIs, and the works achieved 1‑in‑1,000‑year flood resilience—establishing a reference model for sustainable wastewater delivery in Ireland.
Construction Project Manager – Daire Kiernan: Recognised for leadership across the Uisce Éireann CDS Midlands Framework and the Chapel Road Upgrade, Daire Kiernan has overseen more than 2,000 water and wastewater connections across multiple counties. His safety‑first management in live, high‑risk settings is underpinned by Lean and Last Planner methodologies, engineered trench supports and temporary works controls, alongside digital reporting. Broader deployment of horizontal directional drilling has reduced disruption and enhanced safety, with team communication and delivery standards earning multiple awards. Daire's collaborative, clarity‑driven, continuous‑improvement approach sets a strong benchmark for community‑centred infrastructure delivery.
Public Realm – Ringaskiddy Active Travel and Urban Realm (in collaboration with Cork County Council): A strategic reinvestment in a key gateway settlement, the scheme reshapes Ringaskiddy from a transit point into an attractive destination. It provides a high‑quality public realm at the ferry terminal, safe and accessible walking and cycling links, and stronger connections to amenities including the beach and Haulbowline. The revitalised village centre supports local services and community activity, improving safety, accessibility and vibrancy—delivering place‑making and active‑travel benefits with clear socioeconomic value.
The 2026 ICE Award winners will be announced on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at the Convention Centre Dublin. The gala will recognise project teams and leaders whose work is strengthening Ireland's infrastructure and economy.
Coffey's finalist positions reflect an ongoing commitment to sustainable, resilient delivery and responsible engineering, supported by collaborative frameworks and performance‑led procurement. The company acknowledged the contribution of clients, partners and its project teams and extended congratulations to all this year's finalists.
