Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed the start of a £320,000 resurfacing scheme at Lincoln Courts in Derry, with works officially underway.
The project focuses on the U1593 loop road, extending across its entire length from both junctions with the B530 Rossdowney Road.
The comprehensive scheme involves the resurfacing of both the carriageway and the footways. Preparatory civil engineering works are scheduled for completion by Friday 27 March 2026, after which the main carriageway resurfacing will begin. If weather conditions remain favourable, the Department for Infrastructure expects the project to be substantially finished by Friday 17 April 2026.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Derry City area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local community groups and businesses for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To ensure the safety of the workforce and the public, a traffic management priority system will be implemented within Lincoln Courts. Access to the area will be maintained via one of the two junctions with Rossdowney Road throughout the duration of the works.
While the Department has planned the operations to minimise disruption—including provisions for local access, Translink bus routes, and school services—road users are advised to expect delays. Commuters and residents are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and to adhere to all temporary traffic restrictions in the vicinity of the site.
