Uisce Éireann has announced the start of a project to replace ageing and damaged water mains in Codrum, Macroom.
The works are part of the utility's National Leakage Reduction Programme, which aims to modernise and future-proof the water infrastructure throughout Ireland.
The project focuses on the L3415 between the Crescent housing estate and Macroom Tool Hire and Sales. By replacing pipes that have historically been prone to frequent bursts and significant water loss, the initiative will improve the resilience of the local supply for both residents and businesses.
In addition to the main pipework, the project involves the installation of new water service connections from the public mains to individual property boundaries. Ward and Burke Construction is carrying out the contract on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the works scheduled for completion in April.
Jack Cronin of Uisce Éireann welcomed the commencement of the project, stating: "Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. Its impact is felt every day – in every tap, home and community. By focusing on delivering that reliable supply, we continue to strengthen water service resilience for the people of Codrum today and for generations to come."
To ensure the safety of the public and the construction crews, a traffic management system will be in place for the duration of the works. Uisce Éireann has confirmed that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times to minimise disruption.
