A significant construction milestone has been achieved at the Railyard Apartments site in Cork city centre. A tower crane standing at 104 metres—with a height of 92.1 metres under the hook—has been successfully erected for the JCD Group and Clúid development. This free-standing structure currently holds the record as the tallest crane in operation in Ireland.
The arrival of the crane marks the commencement of work on the 25-storey tower. Upon completion, the Railyard Apartments is poised to become the tallest residential building in the country.
This installation represents the third time the team has delivered the tallest crane in Cork. Previous record-setting projects included Cork County Hall and The Elysian, both of which were the tallest buildings in Ireland at their respective times of completion.
The logistical planning for a crane of this magnitude began in 2025. The process involved meticulous design selection and specific component configuration to account for the challenging environmental factors of the region. Detailed preparations were necessary to address the more demanding wind zones found in the south-west compared to other areas of Ireland.
The safe and efficient delivery of this milestone was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the project team. Further updates are expected as the landmark residential project progresses through the construction phase.
