Uisce Éireann Reaches Key Milestone in Multi-Million Euro Clonmel Water Project

Uisce Éireann is making significant progress on its multi-million euro investment to safeguard the water supply for Clonmel and the surrounding areas.

The project, which includes extensive upgrades to the Monroe Water Treatment Plant, has reached a major milestone with over 13km of the planned 15km of new water mains now successfully installed.

The project is designed to modernise the town's drinking water infrastructure, providing a more resilient and reliable supply for local homes and businesses. Once the works at Monroe are finished, the facility will have the capacity to allow for the rationalisation of the Poulavanogue Water Treatment Plant. Additional enhancements are also being made to the Rathronan Pump Station to connect the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North Reservoir, further strengthening the network.

To facilitate the connection of the newly installed water mains, a planned supply interruption will take place from 7pm on Tuesday 10 March until 7am on Wednesday 11 March.

The disruption is expected to impact customers in the following areas:

• Irish Town and Oldbridge

• Western Road and Glenconnor

• Connolly Park, Elm Park, and Prior Park

• Poppyfields and Cherrymount

• Thomas Street, Shamrock Hill, and Cashel Road

Uisce Éireann's Darragh Hannon said: "We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.

"Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network."

Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct communication regarding the outage. The utility provider encourages those who wish to register as a vulnerable customer or an alternative contact to visit the dedicated page on its website.

Upon final completion of the scheme, customers currently served by the Poulavanogue Water Treatment Plant will be transitioned to the upgraded Monroe supply. Residents are advised they can check their specific supply zone in advance via the Uisce Éireann website.
