Limerick City and County Council has confirmed that a significant section of new road infrastructure, stretching from the Cratloe Road Roundabout to the Knockalisheen Road Roundabout, will officially open to traffic on Monday, 9 March.
The opening includes the newly constructed Moyross Link Road, a vital piece of the city's northside regeneration project. While the road will initially operate under traffic management arrangements, its opening marks a critical step in improving safety, connectivity, and accessibility for the local community.
The partial opening of the dual carriageway is essential to facilitate the next stage of the project: the full demolition and reconstruction of the Ballynanty Rail Bridge. The existing structure will be replaced with a modern bridge featuring integrated footpaths and cycleways to support active travel.
Key Dates and Traffic Changes:
• Monday, 9 March: New dual carriageway and Moyross Link Road open.
• Week of 9 March: Preparatory works begin for bridge reconstruction.
• Knockalisheen Road Closure: To allow for the bridge works, Knockalisheen Road will be fully closed. All traffic will be diverted via the newly opened Moyross Link Road.
• 27–28 March: Scheduled demolition of the Ballynanty Rail Bridge.
A Residents' Information Meeting is being held this evening, Thursday, 5 March, at 6pm in the Moyross Community Centre to discuss the closure and answer questions from affected residents.
The Council has also released an informative video across its social media channels to help road users familiarise themselves with the new traffic management system before it goes live on Monday.
