AG Paving and Building Products (AG), a third‑generation, family‑owned manufacturer of low‑carbon paving, walling and brick operating across the UK and Ireland, has posted strong 2025 sustainability results while broadening its responsible business initiatives.
The company said its combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions are now 57% below 2019 levels, comfortably outperforming the 30% reduction pledged through Business in the Community's Climate Action Pledge.
In 2025, AG moved most of its electricity supply to 3T Power and topped up remaining demand with biomethane from a neighbouring farm, supporting its commitment to manufacture using 100% renewable energy.
The firm also widened carbon disclosures to capture additional Scope 3 emissions across its supply chain. While inherently harder to quantify because they sit largely outside direct control, the expanded reporting is designed to provide a fuller, more transparent view of AG's footprint and guide further reductions.
Industry recognition continued, with AG securing Platinum status for a third year in Business in the Community's Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey. Under Head of Innovation and Carbon Reduction Michael Davies, the company has implemented supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) across its range to curb Scope 3 impacts and reduce reliance on traditional cement, enabling customers to specify products that balance performance, durability and lower embodied carbon.
Product-level transparency is underpinned by third‑party‑verified Environmental Product Declarations introduced in 2024 for more than 370 products, evidencing the carbon reductions achieved so far.
AG's commitment to responsible sourcing also earned an "Excellent" rating under the BES 6001 Framework for Responsible Sourcing for the second consecutive year.
Looking ahead to 2026, AG is continuing operational upgrades across its sites, including the introduction of six new Hyster forklifts to replace diesel units with LPG alternatives, cutting emissions and improving efficiency.
People and culture remain core to AG's responsible business strategy. In 2025, the company delivered 3,468 hours of training—averaging almost 15 hours per colleague—and its award‑winning Activ8 health and wellbeing programme contributed to recognition for Excellence in Workplace Health and Wellbeing at the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards.
Further accolades in 2025 included the Responsible Product Award at Business in the Community's Responsible Business Awards for Woodward, Ireland's bestselling concrete brick range, and the Best Sustainable Business Award at the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards.
Stephen Acheson, CEO of AG, said: "Surpassing our carbon reduction targets is an important milestone, but it is not the end goal. As our business grows, reducing our environmental impact becomes more complex – not less – and that is a challenge we are choosing to confront head-on."
"Real progress in decarbonising construction will come from transparency, innovation and a willingness to rethink how products are designed, sourced and manufactured. By investing in materials innovation, responsible sourcing and more comprehensive emissions reporting, we are laying the foundations for the next phase of AG's sustainability journey–one that balances growth with accountability and long-term impact."
