NI Water is set to carry out emergency repairs to the combined foul and storm sewer on Belfast Road, Carrickfergus, close to Model Primary School.
Works will start on Saturday 28 March 2026 and are expected to be completed by midnight on Sunday 12 April 2026.
Recent inspections confirmed that immediate intervention is needed to ensure the system continues to operate effectively for properties in the area.
Phase one will run on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March, with a single-lane closure in both directions between Windmill Avenue and Castlerocklands. Delays are anticipated.
Phase two will take place from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 April, with a range of traffic management measures in place to facilitate a full road crossing over the five-day period.
During phase two, measures will include a contraflow between Windmill Avenue and Castlerocklands; a closure of lane two in both directions on the same stretch; and a closure of lane one on the Carrickfergus-bound side between Windmill Avenue and Castlerocklands.
Across all phases, a right turn out of Windmill Avenue will be prohibited, with traffic diverted via the roundabout at Rodgers Quay.
Road users should expect delays at peak times and allow extra time for journeys. NI Water has thanked the public in advance for their patience and cooperation and says it will work to complete the project as quickly as possible.
