NI Water will start work at the end of March to install dedicated stormwater infrastructure along a section of the Limavady Road in L'Derry.
The scheme is part of NI Water's wider storm separation programme, which aims to divert stormwater from the combined sewer network to reduce the risk of out‑of‑sewer flooding, increase capacity and support local development.
Around 250 metres of new stormwater pipe will be laid and six new manholes constructed between Caw Park and Broomhill Avenue. The project is scheduled to commence on Saturday 28 March 2026 and is expected to take approximately nine weeks to complete.
The timetable is designed to complete pipelaying beside local schools during the Easter holidays. To minimise disruption, NI Water's contractor, CivCo, will work extended hours where possible to deliver the scheme as quickly as it can.
Construction will begin adjacent to Caw Park and progress towards the junction with Broomhill Avenue. Connections to existing infrastructure within Lisnagowan Court are also included in the plans.
For the safety of the public and workers, a continuous northbound lane closure will be in place around the active work areas. To manage traffic, a manned stop/go system will operate during peak periods, with temporary traffic lights used off‑peak and outside working hours.
Bus stops within the work zone will be suspended for safety and to prevent congestion. Signage will be placed on affected stops to direct passengers to the nearest alternatives.
To further ease traffic, non‑local motorists will be encouraged to use a diversion via Crescent Link. This route will be promoted on digital signage at the southern and northern approaches to Limavady Road.
The project team has engaged with nearby residents, businesses and schools regarding traffic management and will continue to liaise with stakeholders as the works progress.
The public is reminded that construction sites are hazardous, particularly for children, and cooperation is requested to ensure children do not enter work areas or approach machinery.
Working areas will be clearly signposted to warn of potential hazards, and members of the public are advised to keep out for their own safety.
NI Water and its partners AtkinsRéalis and CivCo thank the community for its patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out to reduce flooding risk in the Limavady Road/Lisnagowan Court area and to enhance local network capacity to support future development.
