A stretch of Rahoon Road in Galway City has reopened after emergency works were carried out in the wake of a major water main burst over the weekend.
Around 30 metres of the carriageway, between Oakley Crescent and the Seamus Quirke Road junction, had been shut after the incident on Saturday morning caused substantial damage to the road surface.
Contractors working for Uisce Éireann have completed temporary reinstatement to make the route safe, allowing vehicles to use the road again.
Permanent reinstatement to return the surface to its original condition will follow at a later date. These works will require a further road closure, which will take place at night to minimise disruption.
Tony Kelly, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager, thanked residents, businesses and road-users for their patience during the closure. "This burst necessitated a significant temporary repair job to the road surface, and this required a road closure to be put in place in order to be carried out safely.
"We want to thank impacted road-users for their understanding. The road has now reopened with temporary reinstatement in place.
"Our crews will be back to complete permanent reinstatement and restore the road surface to its original condition as soon as possible."
