Uisce Éireann has completed the first stage of upgrade works at the Grand Parade Pumping Station in Cork, as part of a broader investment to reinforce wastewater services across the city and the vital infrastructure communities rely on.
Work began in early January along a short stretch of Sullivan's Quay, with the remainder of this phase delivered on Grand Parade.
The programme involved cleaning and inspecting the underground pumping station and removing obsolete equipment and historical debris.
Uisce Éireann Portfolio Manager, David Shalloo, said: "Overall, this project will improve the operation of the existing wastewater pumping station while helping to address historic malodours and reduce the risk of overflows into the River Lee. The first phase of works gave us a clearer picture of the follow on works required for the next phase of the project."
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd carried out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
