Dungannon Swifts F.C., County Tyrone's only top-flight football club, has partnered with fellow Tyrone firm 3T Power to supply Stangmore Park with locally generated renewable electricity.
The agreement covers the clubhouse and academy and is designed to cut emissions, support the local economy and keep the club ahead of emerging environmental rules.
The club, which has long promoted a forward-looking approach, says the move aligns with its sustainability ambitions while maintaining operational efficiency.
Chairman, Keith Boyd noted: "As a forward-thinking club, we always like to stay ahead of the new regulations, so when the opportunity arose to switch to a local company supplying renewable electricity we were delighted to sign up."
With formal sustainability standards from the Irish Football Association still in development, the Swifts are integrating expected requirements from UEFA's Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines into day-to-day operations now to avoid future disruption.
Stangmore Park is in near-constant use, from academy activity during daylight hours to boardroom operations from 9am, with power needs often stretching to 11pm. Balancing cost control with emissions reduction is therefore central to the club's plans. Keith added: "3T Power offered an extremely competitive rate, especially with the sheer amount of electricity we use as a club. Partnering with 3T Power will also help us meet objectives under UEFA Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines, and we are re-assured that the 3T Power's partnership model means we will have a key contact to support us through our sustainability journey into the future."
Alongside the new supply contract, the Swifts have installed solar panels to generate some of their own electricity and are assessing the addition of EV charging points, further shrinking their carbon footprint.
The club believes these steps can encourage broader change across its fanbase and community. Keith continued: "We believe that embracing renewable energy will have a positive influence for our fans, players and guests as they come through Stangmore Park."
3T Power said the collaboration highlights how sport can help drive environmental progress. 3T Power Sales Manager John-Francis Collins said: "Sporting clubs like Dungannon Swifts are an essential part of the fabric of our communities and not only do they offer opportunities for us to come together to cheer on our favourite teams, they also play an important role in shaping the future generations. By incorporating an environmentally responsible ethos, they are showing that reducing carbon emissions to protect and preserve our environment is something that can be embraced by every organisation, no matter their size or their mission. We are proud to work with Dungannon Swifts to help them ensure a sustainable club for future generations."
The Swifts describe their experience with 3T Power as smooth and supportive as they prepare for future regulatory demands. Simon added: "Thanks to our association with 3T Power, it has eased our minds about future requirements around the Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines that UEFA have currently in place and ones they may add in the future."
