Kinallen Bridge Closed After Structural Damage Raises Safety Concerns

A road in County Down has been փակ in both directions after engineers identified significant structural damage to Kinallen Bridge, prompting immediate safety measures.

The bridge, which carries the C0309 Skeagh Road شمال west of the village of Kinallen, was closed following reports of damage. Engineers attending the scene discovered a partial collapse affecting the structure, leading to the decision to shut the route بالكامل while a full assessment is carried out.

In a statement, the Department said the closure was necessary to protect public safety while further investigations take place.

The Department acknowledges that this closure will cause local disruption and delays and apologises for any inconvenience caused; however, the safety of all road users remains the Department's primary concern.

Engineers are currently conducting detailed structural assessments to determine the full extent of the damage and to identify appropriate repair options. Once this process is complete, officials say they will be able to provide further updates on the required works and expected timelines.

In the meantime, diversions have been put in place via Diamond Road and Banbridge Road. Motorists are being advised to follow posted signage, take extra care on alternative routes, and allow additional time for their journeys.
