A major milestone has been reached in the construction of Belfast's new Adagio Aparthotel, with project partners gathering to celebrate the topping out of the £25 million redevelopment on Great Victoria Street.
Representatives from developer Andras House Ltd, main contractor Martin & Hamilton, and funder Danske Bank attended the ceremony to mark the completion of the building's structural frame. The project, which began in summer 2025, involves the transformation of a former office building into a premier hospitality destination.
The development is situated in the heart of the city's commercial district, located near the new Grand Central Station. Once finished, the structure will comprise a ground floor plus ten storeys—achieved by retaining the original building frame and adding two additional floors.
The Belfast site will offer 136 apartments, featuring a combination of studios and one-bedroom units. Each will include a fully equipped kitchen, workspace, air-conditioning, and a modern bathroom. Designed for the extended-stay market, the aparthotel will provide residents with a 24/7 pizza bar, daily breakfast, and weekly guest social events.
Significantly, the building has been designed to be carbon neutral in operation. Its sustainable features include a fully electric energy system, air source heat pumps for hot water, and high-efficiency climate control, alongside the use of locally sourced materials.
Rajesh Rana, Director of Andras House, commented: "Reaching this important construction milestone demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in Belfast and our strong confidence in the tourism and hospitality market in Northern Ireland. This Adagio Aparthotel will introduce a high-quality extended-stay offering to the city centre, perfectly suited to modern travellers who value space, flexibility and community during their stay."
Paul Currid, Corporate Banking Manager at Danske Bank, highlighted the importance of such investments ahead of major regional events: "With major events such as The Open Championship and the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which will come to Belfast for the first time in summer 2026, the region continues to attract significant international attention and visitor numbers. Investments such as this help ensure the city has the high-quality accommodation needed to support that growth."
Dominic McTague, Commercial Director at Martin & Hamilton, added: "The project demonstrates the benefits of collaborative working and high-quality construction expertise, and we look forward to seeing the building completed and welcoming guests in 2027."
The professional team behind the project includes Todd Architects, Drees & Sommer, Caldwell Consulting, and BW Murray. Adagio, Europe's leading aparthotel network, currently operates over 130 sites globally and aims to expand to 180 properties by 2030.
