Infrastructure Minister Kimmins has unveiled a £690,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme for the A29 New Road in Silverbridge.
Works are due to begin on Monday 13 April 2026 and will cover 2.2 kilometres, starting 700 metres south of Tullydonnell Road and extending to approximately 750 metres north of the Ballsmill Road junction.
The Infrastructure Minister said: "This is a substantial investment for the Silverbridge area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Silverbridge area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 5 June 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
To enable safe delivery, a weekday road closure will operate from Monday 13 April to Friday 5 June 2026 between 09:30 and 16:30. The route will remain open in the evenings and at weekends.
Signed diversions will be in place. Traffic heading towards Dundalk will be directed via A29 New Road, B30 Newry Road, The Square, Cullaville Road, A37 Concession Road, Route N53, N53 Castletown Road, R132 Newry Road and R177 Armagh Road.
Traffic travelling towards Newtownhamilton will be diverted via R177 Armagh Road, R132 Newry Road, Linenhall Street, Bridge Street, N53 Castletown, Route N53, A37 Concession Road, B30 Cullaville Road, The Square, Newry Road and A29 New Road.
The Department has planned works and traffic management to minimise disruption. While local access will be facilitated, delays should be expected; motorists are advised to allow extra time and follow all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is expected to be substantially complete by Friday 5 June 2026.
