John Paul Construction Completes Landmark Dexcom Facility in Galway

John Paul Construction has officially marked the completion of the Dexcom Medical Devices Facility, a state-of-the-art manufacturing and office development. The project, delivered over a 24-month period, represents a major milestone as Dexcom’s first manufacturing site located outside of the United States.

The highly technical facility features a sophisticated production environment complete with cleanrooms, specialised laboratories, and engineering spaces. It also includes a four-storey office building. Once fully operational, the site will focus on the development and manufacture of real-time continuous glucose monitoring systems, which are essential for global diabetes management and improving patient outcomes.

The project team highlighted that the build reflects their specific capability in delivering complex, high-specification life sciences infrastructure while maintaining a rigorous focus on safety, quality, and strict programme certainty.

Sustainability was a core component of the development, which is currently submitting for LEED Gold certification. Environmental highlights from the construction phase include:

• The successful excavation and on-site retention of 170,000m³ of topsoil and subsoil.

• The planting of 600 native Irish Oak trees in support of the Athenry Tidy Towns initiative.

• The prioritisation of a strong local supply chain to bolster the regional economy and project delivery.

A spokesperson for John Paul Construction expressed gratitude to the client for their trust in delivering the investment: "Dexcom has been a valued client throughout, and we appreciate the trust placed in us to deliver this significant investment. We would like to thank the design team, our project partners and the wider site team for their commitment and professionalism in bringing this project to completion."
