Households and businesses in Freemount, in the heart of Duhallow, can expect a more dependable water service as Uisce Éireann completes key upgrades to the village network.
The utility has replaced 626 metres of ageing water mains with modern, resilient pipes, tackling bursts and leaks that had caused interruptions and wasted treated drinking water. The improvements will enhance day-to-day reliability for homes and enterprises across the north-west Cork community.
Uisce Éireann acknowledged the impact of previous outages and low pressure on residents and thanked the community for its patience during the works. Uisce Éireann's spokesperson, Jack Cronin, Programme Manager, is proud to be part of the team that delivered the long-term benefits. "This upgrade has been delivered with the community's needs at its core. By replacing ageing pipes with modern, resilient infrastructure, we're improving water services today while strengthening resilience for the future," said Jack.
He added: "Our teams work with great care and experience to reduce the risk of supply interruptions for customers during works and we’re grateful to the local community for their patience and support throughout these essential upgrades. This investment is rooted in care for the people we serve."
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd carried out the project on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The scheme forms part of a nationwide effort to curb leakage across more than 65,000 kilometres of underground water mains. While hidden leaks can be hard to find and fix, national leakage is now at its lowest level, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today. Further details are available through Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
