New Play Park Construction To Commence In Gortin Village

Construction of a brand-new play park is set to begin at the Owenkillew Community Centre in Gortin Village. This development is part of the Outdoor Recreational Capital Programme, a key element of the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan, which intends to modernise 10 outdoor community areas throughout the district.

The project is financed by PEACEPLUS, a programme overseen by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), with additional match-funding from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. The Local Action Plan was created through a co-design process involving the local community and consists of 13 programmes designed to foster connections, celebrate diversity, and unite residents.

The Gortin play park initiative aims to establish a more accessible and inclusive environment that encourages physical activity, social interaction, and cross-community engagement.

Cllr McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said: "We are delighted to see work beginning on this important project at Owenkillew Community Centre and for the people of Gortin. This is a significant investment in high-quality, inclusive play facilities which helps to bring people together, supports healthier lifestyles and also serves to strengthen community spirit. This new play park will provide a welcoming space for families and residents to enjoy for years to come."

Cllr Thompson, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership, added: "The PEACEPLUS Partnership is committed to ensuring that projects within the Local Action Plan deliver meaningful and lasting benefits for our communities. The redevelopment of this space demonstrates how collaboration and local engagement can create shared spaces that promote inclusion, connection, and positive community relations across the district."

Details regarding the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan and the further outdoor transformations scheduled for the coming year are available on the Council's website, or by contacting the PEACEPLUS team via email at [email protected].
