Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Dara Calleary, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, have officially opened the new Campas Íosagáin in Baile Bhuirne, Co. Cork.
The project represents a nearly €10 million transformation of a previously derelict site into a modern hub for enterprise, training, and research. The facility features a gTeic digital and innovation hub, designed to stimulate economic growth and innovation within the local Gaeltacht community and the wider region.
The investment for the project was drawn from several key sources:
• €3.4 million from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF).
• €3.7 million from Údarás na Gaeltachta.
• €2.7 million from Enterprise Ireland's Regional Enterprise Development Fund.
Speaking at the opening, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said: "I am delighted to be here in the heart of Gaeltacht Mhúscraí to officially open Campas Íosagáin. Innovative projects like this demonstrate what can be achieved through strong local advocacy, strategic partnerships, and Government investment. This project will have a transformative impact in our rural and Gaeltacht communities."
Minister Dara Calleary highlighted that the development aligns with the Government's Our Rural Future policy, noting that the collaboration has unlocked the potential of Baile Bhuirne as a place to live, work, and invest. The campus will also serve as an educational extension for third-level institutions, maintaining the site's long-standing tradition of learning.
Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development, and Tomás Ó Síocháin, Chief Executive of Údarás na Gaeltachta, also welcomed the opening, describing it as a "historic day" that will attract high-calibre talent and accelerate research and development in the South West.
Enterprise Ireland Chairman Jim Woulfe added that the investment strengthens the infrastructure necessary for enterprises to scale, ensuring balanced and sustainable economic development for the Múscraí Gaeltacht.
